There are several forms of emotional abuse.  Here are some behaviors that demonstrate common examples:

  • Blames you for their behavior
  • Doesn't want to tell others about problems in the relationship
  • Keeps you away from family and friends
  • Putts you down
  • Calls you names
  • Embarrasses you in public or in front of family and friends
  • Yells at you frequently
  • Tries to control what you wear, where you go and who you talk to
  • Threatens you in any way
  • Intimates you by destroying your property, smashing things, or using gestures to make you afraid
  • Humiliates you
  • Doesn't respect or accept your decisions or boundaries
  • Gives you the silent treatment
  • Plays mind games
  • Manipulates you for sex
  • Tries to make you think you are crazy
